Layout was fun. Greens rolled well. Good amount of elevation changes and dog legs. Mix between isolated holes where you’re alone in the woods and some social ones here you’re waving hello to others. Everything was in pretty good shape and track has potential to be quite fun and good staple in the area… buuut too much is still under construction. The whole parking lot around clubhouse was dug up, edges of few bunkers were okish, few fairway spots need to be improved (close to green on 18), none of the practice areas are ready yet. Finally the service was meh … phone reception to book a tee time was coldish and I never felt any warmth from anyone for coming to visit a newer, redesigned track. If this place is to become more than above avg they need to over-index on hospitality from warm greetings to showing where the turn is after 9 (confusing) Lots of potential, but prob 6mo to a year away from realizing it fully.

Located in Rochester Hills, just finished 2-year upgrade reconstruction, Pine Trace Golf Club is obviously an championship-level public course to me. Challengability：⭐⭐⭐⭐ (narrow fairways and greens) Landscapability：⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (pine forest) Sophisticatability：⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (new reconstruction) Pine Trace's biggest signature is that it was carved out of 193 acres of extremely dense, mature pine forests, to play 18 holes throughout the hundreds years of pine trees is a privilege itself. Not too many hazards beautiful pine trees for the first 5 holes as the warm up, game starts from Hole 6, 361 yards Par 4, nothing but narrow fairway and water, need to lay up at around 200 yards first, and fit 130+ yards for your 2nd shot to get on the green. Followed by Hole 7, 180+ yards Par 3, big swamp in between the tee box and the green, the scenery of silver grass and the pine trees is a beautiful picture. Hole 8&9 then is a twin-hole to me, both dogleg left and Par 5s in row. Hole 8 480+ yards, 2nd shot is facing an escalated green at around 250 yards. Hole 9, 520+ yards, elevated tee box with narrow fairway, and you'll face another minor dogleg left when trying to approach the green. And your Back

Terrific golf course! Outstanding re-do of this Arthur Hills design. Played in 4 hrs. Greens were in great condition. Fairways were lush and green. New cart paths were smooth and wide! I’ll be coming back! Happy 4th of July - 250th

Same ole dump. $108 for same layout, mush fairways and 5 rotted greens. This revam is comparable to a terrible DIY home renovation. New cart paths new sand, that’s about it. Smells like trash throughout the course. Craters on greens, tee boxes trashed. Same old same old. Look at this lovely green on finishing 18. Brutal. Save your money

I think I was the first round off the back 9 today with the reopening of the course since the renovations. I have played this course many times before it closed so my expectations were high. The updates far exceeded my expectations!! They made some great minor tweaks and the turf is A+. I just hope it doesn’t get too popular or expensive now. Big thanks to Mike and Nancy and the whole staff. We’ll be coming back to Pine Trace a few times this summer.
